Google assists local businesses with making themselves more visible for potential customers and developing efficient communication with consumers. To list your business on Google you will need to claim and to verify it on Google My Business first.

But First, You Need a Personal Google Account

Once you have a Google account you can register your business in Google My Business. Use your desktop computer or a mobile device to claim your business on Google.

Step 4. Add Your Business Information

Fill in the business address, it will place the business location pin on the map. Set your service area if the business has no physical address or delivers products and services to customers. The service area can be specified by city, postal codes or other areas.

You will still need to enter an address for business correspondence. Tick "I deliver goods and services to my customers" at the bottom to hide it from the public.

Step 5. Select a Business Category

Select a business category. Start to type the keywords that best describe your business. Choose a category from the suggested list. You can enter additional categories to better describe what your business is or change it later.

Step 6. Enter Contact Data

Enter a phone number or website for your business. In case of multiple locations, enter a separate phone number and store page for each location. Don't use a centralized call center. It will optimize your business profile for the search engine.

Enter your business name and information (address, phone number, webpage and business category) and agree to the Terms of Service.

How to Verify a Local Business via Mail: on a Desktop Computer

The most common way to verify your business on Google is to request a postcard with a verification code.

4. Enter the Code

Once your verification code arrives you need to enter it in Google My Business.

Some service areas and other select businesses have more options to verify businesses on Google. If your company has been identified as one of such businesses you will see the other available options in your account.

  4. Enter the code received from an automated message sent to the phone number you listed in your business information.

  1. Open Google My Business and sign in to your Google account.
  2. Tap "Get verified" next to one of your locations, and carefully complete the confirmation form. It should include:

  • Business Name
  • Business Countries/Regions (a list of countries and regions you will manage in your account.)
  • Contact Name (provide the names of all people that will manage this account.)
  • Contact Phone (a phone number that could be used to clarify any details needed to verify your account.)
  • Business manager email (an email address for someone at the business who can verify that you are an authorized representative of the business.)
  • Google Account Manager Email (list the contact details of any Google contacts you have been working with.)

It may take around a week for Google to review all of the details after the form has been submitted. A Google staff member will contact you if there are any questions and will inform you once your business has been verified.
