If you have a Facebook business page with recommendations switched on, you may have already gotten some reviews from customers. Reviews can be positive or negative, with text or just a star rating. Reviews are unpredictable, and you can't expect to get only positive reviews no matter how hard you try.

For one reason or another, you find yourself considering removing a Facebook review. It might be a fake review, an advertisement for another business on your page, spam, or something inappropriate that breaks Facebook rules.

Ways to Deal with Undue Facebook Reviews

  • Report to Facebook and ask to remove the reviews.
  • Hide the review section

If you want to delete Facebook reviews, notice that you can't do it as on your personal page where you just click "..." and then "delete". You can report them to the Facebook support team and wait until they remove them for you, or hide the whole review section.

How to Report Reviews

  • Go to the review.
  • Comment on it.
  • Click the "..." in the upper right corner.
  • Click "Report post.".
  • Choose a reason

Note that to report a review, you first need to comment on it in the same manner as you would a regular review, regardless of whether the review in question seems spam or fake. It will be impossible to complain otherwise, as the Facebook mechanism is designed in such a way that you must comment first in order to report a review.

So, keep this in mind as you are answering an ordinary negative review: Be polite and show that you care, even for a fake reviewer. The benefit from this is that your customers will see that you pay attention to your business page and make an effort to resolve problems.

Once you've picked your reason for filing, you will have to wait. The amount of time that the Facebook team needs to check your report will vary. Some users say that it took about 24 hours to solve the problem, but others claim a waiting period of up to a week.

How to Turn off Facebook Reviews

  • Go to your business Facebook page.
  • Click on "Settings."
  • Click on "Templates and Tabs."
  • Scroll down to "Reviews" and click the nearby "Settings."
  • Move the slider to OFF.
  • Click "Save."

It's possible to turn off the whole review section from your page, although we don't advise that you do that. Notice that this will not only affect negative reviews but positive ones also.

However, disabling this section doesn't mean that you are deleting the reviews. Instead, you are only hiding them. Thus, whenever you want to, you can re-enable the reviews again.

Removing Facebook Reviews: More Insights

Regardless, if you have hundreds of positive reviews and some negative ones, the latter won't play a big role. But sometimes those negative reviews can be really damaging for your business, so it's better to take precautions. Also, there is not much pleasure in looking through tons of spam or inappropriate things on your review page, is it?

If you are sure that the only way for you to maintain a positive Facebook business page is to remove the negative reviews, go for it. You can report as many reviews as you want, or just remove the whole section until better times come. However, there are some reasons that you may not want to do that.

Reasons Not to Remove Negative Reviews

While there will be reviews you want to delete, negative comments can have a truly positive effect on your business. Having some real negative reviews on your page will demonstrate to your potential clients and customers that you are authentic. Reacting to those negative reviews also demonstrates that you are responsive on social media.

Getting Facebook reviews (both good or bad) is essential for increasing your client base. As mentioned, people trust online reviews as much as friends and use them to make decisions on whether or not to use your service.

Several negative reviews among positive ones are little drops in the ocean, but if they throw you off-balance, set up Chosen for collecting negative reviews and transferring them into one internal system where you can manage them by yourself.

Don't forget to collect positive reviews. As we said before, negative reviews can be destructive for your business, though positive reviews can soften their influence.

How Not to Be Bothered by Negative Reviews

  • Turn negative reviews into an opportunity to redeem yourself: Show your customers that you are ready to go deeper in each case, and if necessary, either admit guilt or try to get to the bottom of the situation.
  • Develop your strategy for processing negative reviews in advance.
  • Be polite and respect your criticizers.
